Confirm the starting point before wash day

Before the appointment day, ask whether your hair should be washed, detangled, stretched, blow-dried or left in its natural state. Do not assume that every braid, loc or natural-hair service begins the same way.

If cleansing or another preparation service is included, it should be part of the confirmed appointment. If it is not included and the stylist arrives to find that preparation still needs to be done, the reserved time may no longer be enough.

The night-before hair checklist

When you have been asked to have your hair washed and detangled, focus shampoo on the scalp, condition the hair, and detangle gently from the ends upward. Make sure the hair and roots have enough time to dry before they are tied down or covered for the night.

Avoid coating the scalp and hair with heavy layers of grease, gel or edge control unless the stylist specifically asked for a product. Product buildup can change how the hair handles and may slow down the start of the appointment.

• Wash and condition as instructed
• Detangle gently and separate into manageable sections
• Allow the hair and roots to dry properly
• Keep the hair loosely stretched or sectioned overnight if requested

What your stylist needs to know

Mention tenderness, visible irritation, unusual shedding, broken areas, a recent relaxer or colour service, and any style that previously caused pain. A photograph cannot show how your scalp feels. That information helps determine whether the requested size, length or tension should change.

A stylist is not a dermatologist. If you have unexplained hair loss, sores, persistent inflammation or another medical concern, seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before covering the area with a new style.

Bring a visual plan, not a mystery folder

Choose one main inspiration photo and, if needed, one second photo showing a detail such as colour or parting. Ten unrelated screenshots create more confusion, not more choice. Say what you like about each reference instead of asking for an exact copy on different hair.

Confirm the braid colour, size, finished length, accessories and add-ons before appointment day. If hair is being supplied, ask exactly what is included. If you are supplying it, confirm the type, colour and quantity before purchasing.

Prepare the room like a small working studio

Every Great Hair by Simone appointment happens at the client’s chosen location. The space does not need to look like a salon, but it does need to function. Clear the area before the stylist arrives, then place a supportive dining-style chair where there is good light and enough room to move around it. Keep children, pets and luggage from turning the working area into a narrow passage.

• Keep a nearby outlet accessible when the service requires one
• Have water, a light meal and any personal medication handled in advance
• Keep your phone charged, but plan hands-free entertainment for a long service
